Principal
Keith Underwood is the founder and Principal of Underwood & Associates. He has more than 20 years of experience in ecological restoration design. Under his guidance Underwood & Associates were the creators of many of Anne Arundel standards and specifications for Anne Arundel County official guidance for Coastal Plain Outfalls (CSO) and Regenerative Stream Channel (RSC) design. He has co-authored many articles about floodplain management, ecological restoration, stream rehabilitation and stormwater management. He is a nationally recognized expert in Atlantic White Cedar ecology and co-chaired the 2003 Atlantic White Cedar: Ecology Restoration & Management symposium. He has designed and/or installed 500+ residential low impact stormwater management projects.

Katey Shinkiewicz
Project Supervisor
Kathryn Shinkiewicz graduated from the University of Connecticut with a BS in Environmental Engineering, and is now registered as an engineer in training (EIT). Her undergraduate thesis design project was remediation of hexavalent chromium contamination at a site in northeastern Connecticut. Kathryn has worked at a civil and geotechnical engineering firm in New Hampshire conducting soil and groundwater sampling and monitoring, writing Phase I and II environmental assessments, and performing construction oversight, and at VeruTEK Technologies, environmental remediation firm, in Connecticut. Now, in Maryland she is Project Manager and coordinates project planning and implementation.

Sal DeCarli
Water Resource Specialist
Sal DeCarli worked for GZA GeoEnvironmental in 2007 conducting aquatic toxicity testing. In 2008 Sal worked for VeruTEK Technologies conducting surfactant enhanced chemical oxidizations to remediate soil and groundwater contamination of chlorinated and non chlorinated solvents, and also conducted research in partnership with the EPA's National Risk Management Laboratory. In 2009 Sal worked for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA) habitat research branch in Milford, CT. He has written several environmental impact assessment statements, as well as conducted research on assessing stream health, and steam biodiversity. Work has partnered with the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, the Farmington River Water Shed Association, and presented research at the New England St. Lawrence Valley Geographic Society conference in Salem, Massachusetts.

Dan Santoni
Project Engineer
Dan Santoni offers more than twenty years of experience in traditional stormwater management techniques as a project manager before joining Underwood & Associates in 2009. He now plays a key role in developing and designing innovative systems to solve stormwater management problems caused by these traditional techniques.

Janet Pawlus
Environmental Designer
Janet Pawlus graduated from University of Maryland, College Park with a degree in Natural Resource Management with a specialization in plants and wildlife. While in college, Janet worked on obtaining a grant from the Chesapeake Bay Trust for a pond restoration project. She also worked for the Rock Creek Park during her college career managing invasive species populations. After graduating, Janet worked as a hydrogeographer for the National Flood Insurance Project in coordination with FEMA where she became certified as a State Floodplain Manager.

Joe Miller
Environmental Designer
Joseph Miller is a designer-ecologist with three years experience working for Underwood & Associates. He holds masters degrees in ecology (Pennsylvania State University, 1991) and landscape architecture (University of Massachusetts, 2000). His ecological research focused upon the relationship between land use/ land cover patterns and biodiversity. His landscape planning research focused upon measures of land cover pattern and their application in the planning of wildlife habitat corridors within a developing landscape. In addition, he co-authored Measuring Landscapes: A Planner's Handbook. (Island Press, 2006). He has extensive experience with applied Geographic Information Systems and has instructed in their application at the graduate level (Morgan State University). Joseph serves a number of roles within Underwood & Associates including CADD, GIS, and field surveys.

Paco Aguilar
Ecosystem Restoration Technician
Francisco "Paco" Aguilar is a Restoration Technician with Underwood & Associates. Mr. Aguilar is a lead resource for the operation of heavy construction equipment and technical knowledge of the details of ecological restoration and stormwater management construction. Mr. Aguilar has contributed to all Underwood & Associates construction projects since 1988.
