North Gray's Bog

This project restored 95,702 sq.ft. of degraded wetlands. The coastal plain wetland is located at the headwaters of Grays Creek, and is the point at which water from the North Grays Creek Bogs discharges into tidal waters. This habitat provides the necessary recourses and water quality for many species known to be rare, threatened, or endangered.
Approximately 3,000 cubic yards of clean white sand fill, cobbles, and wood chips were placed over the existing substrate to form four weirs, four wetlands terraces, four shallow pools, and 95,702 sq. ft. of stable wetlands complex. This complex consisted of a non-erosive stream channel with four pools, flanked by 40,000 sq. ft of sandy seepage wetlands and 40,000sq. ft of cranberry / sphagnum terraces.
Native species were then planted in there native natural environments. Some of these species included: Purple pitcher plant (Sarracinia puperea), Crested yellow orchid (Habeneria ciliaris), White fringed orchid (Plantanthera blephariglottis), Cotton grass (Eriophorum virginicum), American cranberry (Vaccinium macrocarpon) and Leatherleaf (Chamaedaphne caliculata), and Atlantic White Cedar (Chamaecyparis thyoides)
