The project site consists of the front lawn of Edgewater Elementary School and a small stream flanked by non-tidal wetlands. The stream currently carries stormwater from 87 acres of residential R-2 community and C-2 commercial property. The pre-existing stream and project area both drained into a 73” diameter CMP culvert running under Washington Road. The project was designed to create 1.6 acres of non-tidal wetlands to serve as both a living classroom for the students of the school and to retain and treat stormwater prior to its entry into the tidal waters of Warehouse Creek and the South River.
