About Us

Howards Branch Underwood & Associates is committed to combining the needs of a developing society with an adjusting environment. We are committed to restoring the native interconnected hydrologic cycles through sand seepage wetland and stream restoration. While reconnecting the water cycle from the highlands to the floodplain, our systems reestablish natural microbial habitats and ecosystems imperative to nutrient reduction and sediment control.

We believe restoring native biomes is going to require putting water back on to the landscape by reconnecting floodplains to streams and wetlands and recharging groundwater tables by infiltrating stormwater. We can simultaneously recover threatened ecosystems and restore populations of threatened species while restoring our streams and wetlands and promoting an ethic of environmental stewardship.

Since 1996, Underwood & Associates has been developing methods and techniques to restore and re-integrate these ecosystems into the human occupied landscape. As such, we have developed a regenerative and holistic approach to stream and wetland restoration. By integrating all aspects of our design and construction capabilities with our in-depth understanding of hydrologic water cycles and ecosystem processes, we have created a process of restoring degraded ecosystems, wetland, stormwater systems, as well as retention and detention pond retrofits. These proven innovative restoration methods for severely degraded systems often cost less than conventional hard structure approaches and have benefits that reach far beyond the project borders.
